Going Green Competition
The Community Heart team worked in conjunction with the Wigan Education Business Partnership and arranged for 1,000 high school pupils in the local Wigan area to take part in a Going Green Competition. The competition, which coincides with Key Stage 3 encourages children to research and present new ideas on how the Grand Arcade could be made more eco friendly.
The Community Heart team have devised a workbook for the children to use, which includes recycling facts, information about renewable energy sources and a flat pack of the Grand Arcade which children have to construct and then add on their own green ideas. The competition winners will be announced this month and winning pupils will have the opportunity to work with the artist Dan Bell who will help them to design an eco friendly bench made entirely out of recycled materials which will be placed in the Grand Arcade when it opens. |
